Alicia J. Rose has been photographing fanciful humans for as long as she has been playing the accordion as Miss Murgatroid and promoting excellent music at Doug Fir Lounge and beyond. Born in Los Angeles, California, she migrated to San Francisco for seven years prior to transplanting to Portland, Oregon in 1995. In San Francisco she pulled quadruple duty, booking rock clubs (The Chameleon, Thirsty Swede), Djing on KUSF, playing the accordion and photographing her favorite bands. Her early work with SF bands like Steel Pole Bath Tub, Tilt, Caroliner Rainbow amongst others cemented her addiction.

Armed with an old Holga, a large collection of funky Polaroids and a Yashica twin lens, Rose dabbled in the field until 1999, when she became curiously addicted to medium format photography and discovered the Hasselblad.

Rose soon procured her own Hasselblad and began professionally photographing her favorite humans both in-rock and out, eventually leading to the many visual adventures she embarks on today. She counts herself as a contemporary crossover photographer and passionately strives to bridge the gap between commercial and fine art photography. In her own words, "Why can't everything be fancy?"
